Honda Elevate vs VW Taigun Drag Race

This video comes from Daksh Agnihotri on YouTube. The YouTuber has the two SUVs side-by-side. Both SUVs have 1.5-litre engines but Elevate comes with a naturally aspirated mill, while the Taigun has a turbo petrol engine. For the first round, both of them have the AC and Traction Control On. As soon as they press the accelerator pedals, the Taigun zooms past the Elevate. Interestingly, the gap kept on increasing and the Elevate had no chance to recover. A similar trajectory followed in the subsequent rounds even with tweaks to the setup. In fact, they even gave advantages to Elevate in the next rounds, but the result remained the same. The Taigun emerged as the unequivocal winner.

Specs Comparison

The Honda Elevate comes with a sole 1.5-litre NA petrol engine generating 121 PS and 145 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine comes with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. In this race, the SUV had the latter. On the other hand, the Taigun in this race had a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine generating a mammoth 150 hp and 250 Nm of peak power and torque. There is a 7-speed DSG (DCT) automatic transmission offering sporty performance with manual controls. The sheer power of the Taigun was just too much to handle for the Elevate.

What We Think

In recent times, YouTubers have wholeheartedly adopted the trend of employing drag races as a means to assess and contrast the performance of different automobiles. However, it’s imperative to acknowledge that placing exclusive reliance on drag races for these evaluations may not be the most prudent approach. The concern arises due to the fact that drag races can potentially inflict enduring damage on vehicles, given that most cars are not designed for extended high-speed, straight-line races. Consequently, we strongly discourage any attempts to engage in drag races with your own vehicle. In reality, the majority of drivers steer clear of pushing their cars to such extreme limits, primarily out of safety considerations.
