Hyundai Venue Becomes Nepal’s First Locally Assembled Car

In a milestone development, Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) and Laxmi Group have announced the commencement of local assembly of the Hyundai Venue in Nepal. The neighbouring country’s first-ever automobile assembly plant was inauguratred by Shri. Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Hon’ble Prime Minister of Nepal, and Mr. Tae-Young Park, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, in Nepal.

The establishment of the assembly plant has been made possible through support from Hyundai Motor Company, South Korea and the assistance of local partner Laxmi Group. Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor India Limited lends its expertise in technology and skills transfer. Laxmi Group will be now in charge of the manufacturing and marketing of Hyundai cars in Nepal, with the Venue becoming the first car to roll out of the new assembly plant. This new assembly plant, which is a result of a joint venture between Hyundai Motor and Laxmi Group, promises to bolster localization efforts. Of course, it even creates new employment opportunities in Nepal.

Hyundai Venue Nepal – Price & Specs

Currently, the Hyundai Venue is available at a starting price of NPR 4,096,000 (INR 2,560,622). The top-spec S(O) DCT Turbo version costs a whopping NPR 5,896,000 (INR 3,685,895). To put things in perspective, the India-spec version costs INR 7.94 – 13.48 Lakh. Moreover, unlike the Indian version, which gets a 1.5-litre turbo-Diesel option, the Nepalese iteration is a petrol-only vehicle. That said, the buyers get to choose from a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated and a 1.0-litre turbocharged unit.

Commenting on commencement of assembly, Mr. Unsoo Kim, MD & CEO – Hyundai Motor India Limited said, “This plant in Nepal has an installed capacity of assembling 5 000 units annually, and Hyundai VENUE will be the first locally assembled model to roll off the plant. I would like to convey my sincere congratulations to the people of Nepal for this achievement!”
